Love Probation

Hey sister! This is Char on a solo blog for this Valentines issue of Call Your Sister! It's that lovey-dovey type of year called Valentine’s day, now before you roll my eyes hear me out. In blog issues #03 I want to discuss the failure that is dating in 2021. We have killed dating. KILLED.

I am not placing blame but I will give you tips to revive your dating life. When I say “revive” I mean not settling.

If you are asked on a date it should be a legitimate date, not Netflix and Chill, or lets share a bottle at my place. These are not dates. This is you hanging out at someone else’s house….not a date and you are demeaning yourself if you accept this. I am not downing Netflix and Chill but if you want to go pass a few dates...pass the Love Probation stage then keep reading.

Dating isn’t difficult….guys if you are reading over your girlfriend’s/sister’s shoulder pay attention. Dating IS NOT DIFFICULT. Fast food and a trip to the park is a perfect date.

Women don’t need five star restaurants and island trips. We like them but they are not necessary for getting to know you. We ultimately want to know you care and a 2 hour movie in your living room does not showcase this. Chivalry is not dead…. but if we as women accept whatever is offered then we are giving into the death of dating. We are denying our worth and settling. You are better than this sister! If a date isn't walking you to the door he doesn't respect your safety. Point blank. This simple act takes a few minutes and shows YOU care, thus earning you another date.

Lastly dating is supposed to be fun! This is a trial period, don’t take it too seriously. Dating allows you to figure out if you want to spend more time with this person. Do you want them in your life? Do you share the same interests? According to an etymology dictionary (origin of words) “dating” is the act or practice of “having” romantic dates.* You deserve to be treated like the royalty you are. IF your date isn’t practicing that early on….what is the point of continuing? I think of dating as love probation. At the end of the trial you might reject the other person’s nonsense altogether, or you could fall in love.

Bottom line you deserve happiness and you shouldn't settle for less. Whether you are flying solo this V-day or in a committed relationship....be love. Speak love, and practice self love. Next blog post is 02/24 and Ann will be flying solo giving her take on Black History Month. Till next time xoxo and remember you can always call your sister ;-)
