Blog #01 Year Up

Call Your Sister!

Welcome to the first blog post of “Call Your Sister!” First, nobody is going to spill to a stranger. 😊 My name is Char and I live in Denver, CO. This blog is composed by me, and my mother Ann. We wanted to write together to give advice on the same topic but from different generations. This makes Call your Sister more relatable. I will speak on issues from my POV, Ann will speak from her experience. My advice will be in bold and Ann’s un-bold, which is usually how we roll anyway.

I am a retired teacher, but not a retired learner. My views on the topics and issues discussed here come from a place of "been there done that".

Happy NEW YEAR!

When I was younger me and my friends would set resolutions and TRY to keep up with them but it rarely happened. I think of New Year's Resolutions as a traditional thing everyone says at the end of the year to make them feel better about the upcoming year. "Last year was bad, let's resolve to be better." I feel if you are honest with yourself that is the best resolution you can make. Two years ago I made the decision to start eating healthy and start a regular workout routine. I feel accomplished that I was able to keep with it and maintain my goals. This happened because I stayed committed and after a year I wasn’t satisfied with the results, so I pushed harder. Making promises include being realistic about goals and yourself.

Well sis, we made it to the New Year. Thank all the powers that be. People are still making resolutions!? Well, let me jump on the paddy wagon. Like you Sis, growing up we ate black eyed peas and made resolutions. Just for the record, I never liked black eyed peas. My resolution is to LIVE my Best pandemic life. Things have certainly changed in 365 days. What's that old song, "What A Difference A Day Makes"? Living my Best for me is staying true to myself. We can fool some of the people some of the time. You cannot fool yourself. I also resolve to be a better person today than yesterday. We are given New Mercy each day why not use that mercy to start over?
